Our Volunteers are the heart of our organization. In 2014, 30+ volunteers generously contributed more than 3,000 hours! These volunteers helped us collect, sort, repack and distribute over 218,000 pounds of food and other items!
Volunteer positions can be daily, weekly or special event commitments and take place Monday through Thursday between the hours of 9 am and 12 pm.
To learn more about our volunteer opportunities, email or call 352-326-5463 or drop in and see us.

Volunteering benefits the community, the organization, and the volunteer. Think of what you can do when you give your time to help your community:

  • Help your community: Know that you are giving your time, talent, wisdom, and experience to your community and neighbors who need you.
  • Help yourself: Through service, you can add to the quality and health of your life. Research indicates that volunteers enjoy better health, make new friendships, stay active and involved in the community, and learn new skills.
  • Make a difference: Be part of a movement to transform our community through the involvement of its citizens.
  • Save money for the organizations you serve: By donating your time and skills, you help make funds go farther for organizations that address critical needs in our community.

Perhaps the first and biggest benefit people get from volunteering is the satisfaction of incorporating service into their lives and making a difference in their community and country. The intangible benefits alone—such as pride, satisfaction, and accomplishment—are worthwhile reasons to serve.

Volunteer at the Leesburg Foodbank

Meaningful Work. A Capable Team. A Stronger Community.

At the Leesburg Foodbank, we believe that no one in our community should go hungry. As a volunteer-managed and operated 501(c)(3) organization, we are the engine that keeps our neighbors fed.

When you volunteer with us, you aren't just filling a shift—you are part of a focused, compassionate, and highly effective team dedicated to serving Leesburg and the surrounding communities.

Our Impact

Thanks to the tireless efforts of our volunteers, we are able to operate 52 weeks a year, distributing food three mornings a week.

  • Serving Families: We provide essential groceries to over 8,000 families every year.
  • Fueling Students: Through our partnership with the Leesburg School District, we provide weekend meals to 350 students throughout the school year, ensuring they have the nutrition they need to succeed when school is out.

Operational Volunteer Roles

We have a role for everyone. Whether you enjoy physical activity, organizational tasks, or working directly with people, we need your help. You can join us for one morning a week or commit to all three—we value whatever time you can give.

What You Might Do:

  • Sorting & Rotating: Sort donations from individuals and community drives, and rotate inventory to ensure zero food waste.
  • Basket Assembly: Create shopping baskets tailored to the specific size and dietary needs of each family.
  • Client Interviews: Sit down with families to understand their specific needs and preferences, ensuring they receive the help that serves them best.

Physical Requirements:
Roles range from stationary tasks to active movement.

  • Stationary: Seated or standing roles (Interviewing, some sorting).
  • Light Activity: Involves 20–30 steps of movement carrying light weight.
  • Heavy Activity: Some roles involve lifting 30 to 50 pounds (Team efforts are encouraged!).

🚨 IMMEDIATE NEED: Monday Morning Team 🚨

We are currently seeking 3 individuals to assist with shopping basket assembly.

  • When: Mondays, 7:30 AM – Noon.
  • Activity Level: Moderate. This role involves walking 15–20 steps while carrying 5–10 pounds.
  • No snow birds at this time please

Leadership Opportunities: Guide Our Future

The Leesburg Foodbank is not a "fixer-upper" situation. We are a stable, debt-free organization with a 10,000-square-foot distribution center, a fleet of vehicles, and over 200 local supporters. We are looking for leaders to "maintain course" and strategically plan for the future.

Executive Director

After two decades of incredible service, our current Executive Director is retiring. We are searching for a new leader to take the helm of this well-oiled machine.

  • The Role: You will oversee operations and serve as the face of the Foodbank. This role requires strong people skills to interact with our donors, volunteers, and clients, as well as management skills to oversee general operations.
  • The Support: You will not be alone. We are fortunate to have an experienced Operations Manager and a solid Financial Manager already in place. Your job is to lead a team that is already efficient and effective.

Board of Directors

We are looking to strengthen our Board with individuals who possess specific professional expertise to ensure the long-term health of the charity.

  • We are seeking experience in: Finance, Law, Non-Profit Administration, and Volunteer Management.

Join Our Team

Volunteering at the Leesburg Foodbank is an opportunity to do something truly meaningful. Whether you are packing a basket for a hungry student or sitting on the Board to guide our financial future, you are making Leesburg community a better place to live.
